"May you be alive at the end of the world" Irish proverb

For many years stories have been told by different traditions about the year 2012.. The traditions range from the Mayan calendar to Nostradamus, Timewave Zero, Galactic Centre, the technological singularity (when intelligent machines turn on their creators and users) and various other apocalyptic scenarios. The interesting thing is that many different theories seem to consistently point at the same year; 2012.

Although some of these stories might seem believable and scary, you need to bear in mind that they are simply stories and theories and that no-one actually knows. You need to make your own mind up about what is going on and question your own authorities and assumptions. It is our guess that as we approach 2012, there will be increasingly strange things happening, probably stimulated by the weight of strange 2012 stories in circulation. We don't know the impact of signifcant numbers of people believing the 'end is nigh' will have on the planet and so 20Twelve.com has been created as a portal to chronicle 2012 theories, stories and resource links.

Not since the Y2K computer bug have we had a good apocalypse to look forward to - and in the absence of anything more interesting, it is our bet there will be greater focus on the times, our consciousness and awareness of our place in the Universe. And while there is controversy about whether the world will really end on December 21st 2012, there is no better excuse than the "possible" end of the world to have a party and so we also provide a community party directory on 20twelve.com.
